Description:

A rare regional map of the Mississippi Valley, extending from Minnesota to the Gulf Coast and extending east to Lake Michigan and an equal distance to the west. A highly unusual map, showing the discoveries and explorations of Marquette and Joliet, one of the very few early regional maps to focus on the Mississippi Valley and one of the first maps of the Mississippi River. While highly inaccurate in retrospect, the map provides exceptional detail of the Indian Tribes, settlements, mountains, rivers, lakes and other regional features, including several early French forts.

An essential map for collectors of the Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes, Plains and Midwest. Only one appearance in a dealer catalogue in the past 15 years.
